Professional Development and Learning

The Work Group seeks to ensure that online college programs provide welcoming and supportive environments that address disparities, close achievement gaps, and meet the needs of each student. The Work Group is collaborating with the Chief Professional Development officer to:

  • Include equity principles and culturally responsive practices in the OEI Rubric.Three students in graduation robes and caps
  • Create a series of equity-based and Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning (CRTL) workshops that focus on high-impact practices to increase student retention and successful outcomes, and introduce online practitioners to a variety of approaches to building equity-minded online programs, including introductory specific workshops designed to meet the needs of community colleges, such as, Intro to CRTL in the Online Classroom, Intro to CRTL for Online Counselors, Equity for Frontline Staff, CRTL for SI Leaders.
  • Create an Online Student Equity Community of Practice (CoP) to provide networking opportunities, increase awareness, promote information sharing, demonstrate the valuing of culture and diversity, encourage self-assessment.
